As I was finishing Mom’s ombre butterfly quilt, I decided to also make a quilt for my dad by December 23 when we left on our trip to Nevada for Christmas. Joann.com has a variety of licensed fabrics, and I was inspired by their classic rock band fabrics. Listening to Led Zeppelin, Queen, Fleetwood Mac, and Jim Croce with family on road trips is one of my fondest memories, especially when Dad shares stories about the concerts he went to in his pre-Bree days. Of the available band and color options, I went with blue and white fabrics printed with Grateful Dead, The Who, The Beatles, and AC/DC. To make the different prints pop, I wanted a neutral filler to go between the blocks. A fabric roll, or jelly roll, was perfect and cut down on the amount of measuring and cutting I would have to do since the strips are already trimmed to a 2.5 inch width. Hooray for working smarter not harder! I went with a dark green batik fabric for the backing and binding to compliment the colors on the quilt front. With that, the plan for Dad’s quilt was complete!

This was a last minute project, and I had the plan finalized on December 20. I had to get a crack on if this quilt was going to be done before December 23! I’m not sure if it was the pattern I used or that I was feeling confident after completing Mom’s quilt, but I was able to get this project done within 2 days. Cut, sewn, batched, and bound in a little over 48 hours… whew… but done before our Christmas road trip. Dad was so surprised and I would say that these holiday quilts were a hit!
